WOOHOO!!! WORKING OUT WITH JERICHO IN 3 WEEKS!!!
It’s been about 90 days. 3 months since I started this journey and I feel that I’ve done extremely well for myself. I started out at 147 lbs. 12% body fat with the intention of getting to 160 lbs. and under 10%. That was my goal. As of yesterday I’m currently at 155 lbs. 15% body fat. I’m not upset that I didn’t hit my goal. I know exactly why that didn’t happen. I know what areas I have to seriously work on and I’ve taken steps to ensure that I will hit that goal. 5 more pounds to gain isn’t going to be hard especially since I’ve recalculated my intake and I’m back up to 2800 calories a day. So the Beast continues…
Reaching these particular goals have been a learning process. I’ve learned that it’s extremely difficult for me to consume that many calories. Supplementing properly is vital to growth. I have to be better prepared nutritionally. I totally need at least one day for Yoga, stretching, and rolling out my sore muscles and not just resting. Getting enough sleep is extremely vital. I snore now LOL.
These are a few of the things that I’ve learned in this first block.
Have I set new goals? No, I’m still aiming for the 160 lbs. mark and also under 10% body fat. I have modified my goals though. Once I hit 160 lbs. I will direct my focus on seriously cutting and shredding. That will mean that I will lose some muscle mass but that’s the only way for me to achieve single digit body fat. I’m estimating a 5-7 lbs. loss maybe more and I’m completely OK with that. I don’t want to be hulking around and looking like a complete meat head. Aesthetically speaking my goals are to look like a Fitness Model and not a Body Builder. This is what I’ll be working on through the Winter and hopefully by Spring I’ll have achieved my perfect body. And you’ll see the Beast, the Monster made manifest from hard work and dedication.
I started Phase 2 of Body Beast yesterday. We’ve moved in to the actual BULK phase where we are concentrating on specific muscle groups and not combinations like Chest and Back or Back and Biceps like we did in the first phase. For example yesterday for me was BULK: Chest and it was more than CHESTASTIC…it was S-PECKS-TACULAR!!!
All jokes aside, I’ve never done so many different types of sets targeting one particular muscle group. The way this program is laid out it is designed to bring you to failure in each exercise but you must complete each exercise, hit every target rep number, and always increase the amount of weight you are lifting (within reason and safely) in each set unless instructed otherwise like in a drop set.
Today was BULK: Legs. MY LEGS ARE BEYOND JELLO, NOODLES, MUSH, ETC. My legs are my weakest area in terms of strength. Endurance and stamina wise, I’m a BEAST in that area. I’ll go and go and go. But raw strength wise, I suck but I am getting stronger and stronger. I’m actually looking forward to the pain and soreness tomorrow. That’s how I know what I’m doing is working and I’m making progress. Tomorrow will be BULK: Back and I’m going to destroy that workout =)
As for the physical changes, I’ve bumped up in weight again slightly. I’m hovering around 152 pounds and my body fat % has increased slightly to somewhere around 11% which is to be expected since I’m eating so much. My original calorie intake was set at 2600 but I was advised to bump up to 2800. Since starting out 23 days ago, I’ve yet to hit either number but I’ve come extremely close. I’m even more prepared for this phase so I know I’ll be hitting at least 2600 very soon. I’ve also gained 2 inches in my chest and my thighs and an inch in my arms so I’m getting bigger! 8 more pounds to my goal and then when I hit 160 I’m gonna shred, shred, shred, down to 155 and hopefully will be at 6% when I finish the program!
I know I also owe food pics from what I’ve been eating and I will put those up but I’ve been so hungry, taking no time in devouring my food and forgetting to take pictures of what I’ve made. So tomorrow I’ll post up every meal for the day! And Day 30 pics are a week away!
I’m doing this. I’m doing whatever it takes. I’m pressing on, pushing harder, pulling myself up. I’m doing this for me, not for anyone else. I’m getting closer and closer to the best version of myself possible and I’m not stopping EVER!

Day 16 and still going strong. Next rest day is scheduled for this Wednesday where I plan to do some serious Yoga, stretching, and hopefully some time on the rumble roller to work the kinks out. This is the 2nd to the last rest day scheduled in this Phase and then it will be lifting for 7 days straight along with serious Cardio once a week.
Talk about a rough schedule. LOL. I plan on posting some of the meals I’ve been having lately. It’s not pretty but when you’re using food as fuel, who gives a shit if it looks good? LOL.
Beast Mode continues…
Today begins another fitness journey for me. One that I’ve been preparing for since the beginning of the year but I hadn’t planned on starting till sometime in October. It’s definitely going to be a unique opportunity for me. I’ve been seesawing with mass gaining and bulking because my heart wasn’t completely in it. So I would pick up routines here and there just to keep myself busy and in decent shape. January, I started with Jim Wendler’s 5/3/1 and just kept cycling those workouts. I did gain a significant amount of muscle mass but my nutrition wasn’t super clean and it wasn’t organized. My heart wasn’t in it that much either but I did love the lifting, so much so that I got injured and severely strained my left shoulder/rotator joint. That put me out of commission for almost 2 months with my upper body.
I didn’t let the injury stop me. I fought my ego and myself daily to not do anything to strain my shoulder even more. So I worked my legs like a champ! My legs are my weakest area. I put them through hell with lifting, Yoga and stretching, HIIT Cardio. I worked my abs and core with various exercises that didn’t require me to use my arms. It was a lot of fun but still my nutrition was again not super clean and I didn’t stick to my usual Primal eating. I indulged more often than usual.
That brings us to the present, to today and the program that I’m starting: BODY BEAST.
This is Beachbody’s newest fitness program solely focused on mass building and getting huge, or in the words of it’s creator, Sagi Kalev, “BEASTY!” I’m not trying to get to a body builder’s physique, nor do I want to in the future. I do want to pack on 10-15 pounds of solid muscle though and drop back down to single digit body fat. And I’m going to do this program to get those results. It’s going to be a lot of fun since I love lifting!
This new program isn’t just giving me the chance to change my body again but it’s also giving me the chance to organize my Tumblr so I’ll be using my Tumblr for accountability purposes with posts every day tracking my progress. Yeah all that food…and I’m a fitness instructor. It’s not like my family or my friends eat like that all the time. Well most of my friends that is.
This is where I go to burn all that off. This is my cousin’s, oldest brother’s, and one of my closest friends house and Headquarters for THAT TEAM, LLC. It’s been 4 years in the making and we’ve completed 90% of the work in the basement that we so affectionately call, “The Dungeon”. It started out with a big ass tube TV and 4 tiles of workout tiles and one set of Powerblocks Interchangeable weights system only going up to 50lbs. There was no bench, no other kinds of weights, no pull-up bars, nothing and to top it all off the walls were covered with this horrible, horrible, wall paper made from this fibrous, burlapy, rough paper like material and was a shitty reddish, clay brown, color. That wall paper is a complete fire hazard and we haven’t gotten all of it off yet but we will.
A lot of equipment has been added recently and within the past 2 years. Also a lot of renovations, including the rear wall which was painted over with dry erase paint so that we could write our workouts, goals, schedules, motivational quotes, all over it. A practically brand new and complete Iron Gym Smith Machine that we got for an unbelievable price is the biggest piece of equipment we have. Four Weighted vests two at 20lbs and two at 30lbs, push-up stands, resistance parachutes for running Sprints, cones and agility ladders for speed drills, pull-up bars, more free weights now going up to 90lbs, and a crucial set of kettle bells, are among the equipment that we’ve had for some time now. We are planning on getting at least one more bench and hooking up our heavy bag.
We put in SERIOUS WORK here. We play hard but workout harder. FITNESS and HEALTH are our PASSIONS and PRIORITIES. It’s not a game when we come down here. We test ourselves every day in The Dungeon. Bad days, lack of motivation, and negative feelings are left as puddles of sweat on the floor tiles. We’ve had so many “paroled inmates” come through here and they’ve left feeling better, more alive, healthier and fit, and extremely confident about themselves it’s so crazy to think it’s been only 4 years. And we do it for FREE. Yup FREE.
There’s no charge here. You want to workout, you just call whoever is free and we’ll set it up. It doesn’t even matter if you’re from our area or not. You want our help we will give it to you in any way we can. That’s how we roll and that’s what we love about being Coaches and being involved with a company whose mission is to “help people achieve their goals and enjoy a healthy fulfilling life.” It’s what THAT Team does and it goes perfectly in line with our own mission statement “to champion others to grow personally and professionally through compassion, engagement, and an unshakable belief in their potential.
